Ashley Etienne, who served as Kamala Harris’ communications director in 2021, said she thinks Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) would be the “greatest threat” to Harris in a VP debate.

“He’s an incredible debater. I think he has this quality that makes him seem palpable to that one to two percent that actually might vote or that is undecided, that will actually pay attention to the debates because most people don’t pay attention to the debates,” she said.

“I think he’s just got a quality about him where he’s super smart and sharp and quick-witted. I just think it’s going to be a challenge to see the two of them face-to-face. I mean, maybe it’s just me, but I think he’s going to be the greatest threat,” she added.

Fox News reports:

The comment comes as Harris’ disapproval rating remains high with 55% of registered voters having an unfavorable opinion of the vice president, according to a Fox News national survey from May.

Vance is on Trump’s short list for vice president along with several other top Republican contenders. However, it was recently revealed that the first-term senator was one of only three from the candidate pool who had vetting documents requested from Trump’s campaign team.

Vance has shown staunch support for Trump throughout his campaign and legal woes, recently joining the former president at a Manhattan courtroom where he was eventually found guilty on 34 charges related to falsifying business records.

In related news, Vance dominated the People’s Convention grassroots straw poll for Donald Trump’s running mate.

The options included:

  • Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH)
  • Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL)
  • Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC)
  • North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum

J.D. Vance overwhelmingly dominated the poll.

The Ohio senator won the poll with 43 percent of the vote.

Tim Scott came in second at 15.4 percent.

Rubio garnered 7.7 percent, while Burgum had 7.0 percent.

From The Hill:

Last week, Trump told Fox News’s Aishah Hasnie that his vice presidential pick was probably in the room with him when he met with the entire Republican congressional delegation on Capitol Hill.

Trump has said that he will unveil his pick at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, which will take place July 15-18.

Harris has said she is ready to face any of the potential candidates for vice president.

“I’m ready to make the case — whoever he picks, no matter who it is,” she said, according to a Democratic National Committee news release.

During the 2020 election, Harris faced off against former Vice President Mike Pence, and a CNN poll at the time showed that nearly 6 in 10 voters who watched the debate believed that Harris won.
