Deccan Herald reports:

The third-tallest statue in the United States is that of Lord Hanuman! At a gala Pran Pratishtha event in Houston city of Texas on August 18, the statue, called the Statue of Union, was unveiled.

Regarding the choice of name for the statue, its official website says, “The Statue of Union will be North America’s tallest statue of Lord Hanuman, an embodiment of strength, devotion, and selfless service. Hanuman united Sri Rama with Sita and hence the name, Statue of Union.”

The statue is located at Sri Ashtalakshmi Temple in Sugar Land, Texas. The website also says that the statue “is about creating a spiritual epicenter where hearts find solace, minds find peace, and souls find a path to transcendence.”

“Hanuman is a Hindu god whose shape is half-monkey, half-human,” Durham University stated.

Per Hindustan Times:

A grand Pran Pratishtha ceremony was held in Houston, Texas, on Sunday, August 18, where a 90-foot-tall Hanuman statue was inaugurated. This is the third tallest statue in the United States, according to Latestly.

The statue was named ‘Statue of Union,’ and it commemorates Lord Hanuman’s role in reuniting Sri Rama and Sita. The temple has been built at the Sri Ashtalakshmi Temple in Sugar Land, Texas. The visionary behind the project happens to be His Holiness Sri Chinnajeeyar Swamiji.

Multiple X accounts noted the timing of the statue’s unveiling, considering the recent monkeypox hysteria.

“Anyone else find it odd the timing of the unveiling of the statue in Texas of the Hindu god Hanuman which just happens to be half monkey and half human This occurred just a few days after the WHO declared ‘monkeypox’ a global health emergency. Talk about a coincidence,” Vision4TheBlind noted.

The World Health Organization (WHO) last week declared mpox (monkeypox) a global public health emergency.
