Rep. Mike Turner (R-OH), the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence chair, said the United States should “seriously consider taking direct military action” if North Korean troops invade Ukraine.

“Now that Secretary Austin has finally acknowledged that North Korean troops are in Russia preparing to enter the conflict with Ukraine, the Biden-Harris Administration must make clear that North Korean troops entering this conflict are a red line for the United States,” Turner said.

“I have long challenged the Biden-Harris Administration’s unwise position on restricting Ukraine’s use of U.S. weapons against targets within Russian territory. If North Korean troops attack Ukraine from Russian territory, Ukraine should be permitted to use American weapons to respond,” he continued.

“If North Korean troops were to invade Ukraine’s sovereign territory, the United States needs to seriously consider taking direct military action against the North Korean troops,” he added.

Per Fox News:

Defense Sec. Lloyd Austin has said that there is evidence North Korean troops are present in Russia.

“We assess that between early to mid-October, North Korea moved at least 3,000 soldiers into eastern Russia. We assess that these soldiers traveled by ship from the Wonsan area in North Korea to Vladivostok, Russia,” White House national security communications adviser John Kirby said.

“These soldiers then traveled onward to multiple Russian military training sites in eastern Russia, where they are currently undergoing training,” he continued.

Kirby said that the U.S. does not know whether the North Korean troops will fight alongside Russian forces, but described the prospect as “a highly concerning probability.”

“Why has the Biden-Harris Administration failed to actively brief Congress about the movement of North Korean troops into Russia? Today, I sent a letter to President Biden demanding that his administration give @HouseIntel answers and that the use of North Korean troops against Ukraine must be a red line for the United States and NATO,” Turner wrote last week.

“This man is Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee! Why are we in so much trouble internationally? Because nut-cases like this are in charge,” Daniel McAdams, Executive Director of the Ron Paul Institute for Peace and Prosperity, commented.

From The Hill:

He added that after completing training, the soldiers could travel to western Russia and then engage in combat against the Ukrainian military, a development that would “demonstrate Russia’s growing desperation in its war against Ukraine.”

The U.S. has briefed the Ukrainian government on the situation, to include the implications of such a move and how the U.S. might respond, according to Kirby.

He also gave a stark warning that should the North Korean troops be employed against Ukraine, “they will become legitimate military targets.”
