President Trump is expected to nominate Linda McMahon as secretary of the Department of Education.

“Trump transition co-chair Linda McMahon is expected to be named as Education Secretary, four sources familiar with the matter tell me and @kaitlancollins – decision was formed after her co-chair Howard Lutnick was given Commerce, a role McMahon wanted,” CNN national correspondent Kristen Holmes said.

Per CNN:

The decision took shape after it became clear that McMahon would be passed over for Commerce secretary. President-elect Donald Trump named his other transition co-chair Howard Lutnick to lead the Commerce Department earlier Tuesday after the Cantor Fitzgerald CEO had thrown his name into the mix for Treasury secretary, sparking a battle with hedge fund manager Scott Bessent.

“After passing her over for Commerce, I’m hearing that Linda McMahon is the lead contender for Secretary of Education. She’s co-chair of the transition and former head of the Small Business Admin during the first term. I’m hearing that by Friday all of the major cabinet postings will be announced,” Puck News senior political correspondent Tara Palmeri said.

As noted, President Trump announced Tuesday that Cantor Fitzgerald CEO Howard Lutnick would serve as commerce secretary.

“In his role as Co-Chair of the Trump-Vance Transition Team, Howard has created the most sophisticated process and system to assist us in creating the greatest Administration Americas has ever seen,” Trump said.
