Former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo reportedly is preparing to enter the race for New York City mayor.

There has been speculation for months that Cuomo will attempt to make his political comeback in the upcoming mayoral election.

According to News 12, Cuomo is expected to announce his candidacy by the end of the month.

“Multiple sources have confirmed to me Andrew Cuomo (seen here in my last interview with him back when he was Governor) is 100 percent in and will announce his run for NYC Mayor by the end of the month via video after racking up slew of endorsements,” investigative reporter Tara Rosenblum said.

News 12 reports:

Multiple sources have told News 12’s senior political reporter Tara Rosenblum that Andrew Cuomo has made the decision to run for New York City mayor following many months of speculation.

Cuomo served as the 56th governor of New York from 2011 until his resignation in 2021 following several sexual harassment allegations, which he adamantly denies and have not resulted in any charges.

Sources tell News 12 Cuomo has already earned several crucial endorsements for mayor, including former state Comptroller H. Carl McCall and will make an official announcement via video in the next few weeks.

The development comes as current Mayor Eric Adams battles low approval ratings and a federal indictment.

There’s also reportedly a push for New York City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams to run for mayor.

From the New York Post:

State Attorney General Letitia James is encouraging Council Speaker Adrienne Adams to run for mayor — in an apparent bid to stop ex-Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s expected comeback bid for City Hall, sources told The Post.

“I spoke to Tish. She’s putting out feelers for Adrienne Adams,” one Democratic elected official said.

“People are looking for an alternative to Cuomo. None of the current candidates are capable of beating Cuomo,” claimed the source, who requested anonymity.

The term-limited council speaker’s name as a potential mayoral contender first seriously surfaced last weekend during the New York State Association of Black, Puerto Rican Hispanic & Asian Legislators Caucus’ annual event in Albany.

James, a fellow Democrat, chatted up the Queens pol during the event, sources said.

But the AG — who is no friend of Cuomo’s — also has been buttonholing prominent Democrats in person to gauge interest in a candidacy for City Hall by the speaker, who has called on Mayor Eric Adams to resign.
