Authorities said former U.S. Attorney Jessica Aber, who was found deceased Saturday morning in her Virginia home, likely died of “natural causes.”
“At this time, detectives have found no evidence suggesting that her death was caused by anything other than natural causes,” Alexandria police said, according to the New York Post.
A family friend previously told NBC News that Aber had a "longstanding medical issue."

From the New York Post:
A family friend previously told NBC News that police believed she died from a medical problem, and two former senior Justice Department officials also told the outlet that local law enforcement didn’t believe foul play was involved.
ADVERTISEMENTNo official cause or manner of death has been released so far.
“The investigation is ongoing, and the case will remain open until the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) returns a final ruling on the cause and manner of death,” Alexandria police said in the Tuesday statement.
“We urge the public to respect the privacy of Ms. Aber’s family during this time of loss.”
Aber, whose office gained accolades for prosecuting CIA leaks and Russian nationals carrying out fraud in the US, resigned when President Trump took over on Jan. 20.
Aber's office also prosecuted an Israeli national for "conspiracy to launder money and facilitate the illegal entry, harboring, and transporting of noncitizens in the United States for the purpose of their employment."
"After we extradited this defendant from Israel, he pleaded guilty to recruiting/facilitating the illegal entry of Israel citizens into the United States with fraudulent tourist/visitor visas. This investigation reflected years of hard work with @DOJCrimDiv, @HSI_DC, + @DOLOIG," Aber said in 2023.

Per Independent:
Aber, a career federal prosecutor, oversaw significant legal cases for the Justice Department, including those securing convictions for an MS-13 gang leader, the former governor of Virginia and more.
She began her career in the Eastern District of Virginia in 2009, serving as an assistant U.S. attorney before becoming counsel to the assistant attorney general for the criminal division in 2015. One year later, she became deputy chief of the criminal division for the district court.
In 2021, Aber became the third woman to be confirmed to lead the Eastern District of Virginia’s office after being nominated by Biden.
ADVERTISEMENTColleagues described Aber as an “unmatched” leader who was deeply committed to seeking justice. Some told the Washington Post she was detail-oriented and often sat in the courtroom gallery for major trials or hearings.
Aber resigned from her position as U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia as President Donald Trump took office.
