Mayor Eric Adams vowed to remain in New York City’s mayoral election after rumors swirled he might take a job in the Trump administration.
Adams made the announcement during a press conference on Friday following reports that advisers to President Trump offered him numerous positions, including at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Adams called Andrew Cuomo a "snake and a liar."
"I am in this race, and I'm the only one that can beat Mamdani," he said.
"This polo shirt that I'm wearing that says Eric Adams, Mayor of the City of New York - I'm going to wear that for another four years. We can't go backwards," Adams continued.

Adams also denied reports that he will be traveling to the White House on Monday, saying he would instead campaign in New York City.
"Those reports are wrong. I'm not. I'll be moving throughout this city in the five boroughs that made me mayor in the first place," he said.
"How many times ... I've been told throughout this journey, to step aside, to surrender, to give up, to give in? That's the same thing we tell everyday New Yorkers. Everyday New Yorkers are not giving up, are not giving in, are not surrendering. So the mayor is not going to do that," said Adams.
Sources told ABC News the Trump team has been hearing from Republican donors in New York pleading with Trump aides to get involved out of fear that Mamdani could win the November contest.
"Then it's on to Sliwa, but that's a tougher nut," one source familiar with the efforts told ABC News, referring to Republican mayoral nominee Curtis Sliwa, who has publicly vowed to stay in the race.

Cuomo is currently polling in second place behind Mamdani and is considered to have the best chance of winning a 1-on-1 contest.

Reuters noted:
Trump has vowed to do what he can to stop the Democratic nominee and frontrunner, 33-year-old liberal state lawmaker Zohran Mamdani, from becoming the next mayor of his native city. Earlier this week, Trump said he would like to see two of the three other main candidates - Adams, former Democratic Governor Andrew Cuomo and Republican Curtis Sliwa - step aside to avoid splitting the anti-Mamdani vote.
Mamdani, a self-described democratic socialist, has alarmed much of the New York business community and some within the Democratic Party with his leftist views. Election Day is November 4.
"It would seem to me that if he (Adams) stays in, if you have more than one candidate running against him (Mamdani), it can't be won," Trump told reporters in the Oval Office, shortly after Adams' statement.
ADVERTISEMENT"I would say that Cuomo might have a chance of winning if it was a one-on-one. If it's not one on one, it's going to be a hard race," Trump added.
Adams said press reports of him being in Washington for meetings about his future were wrong, but he did not directly address whether he had been in talks with Trump's team.
