Last month, Twitter CEO Elon Musk conducted a poll asking Twitter users if they supported former President Donald Trump’s reinstatement on the social media outlet.

Users voted in favor of the measure, and his account, including most of his followers, was reinstated.

Trump has still held out on using Twitter as he attempts to promote his alternative, Truth Social.

On Wednesday, Facebook’s parent company Meta announced their decision to reinstate President Trump on Facebook.

The decision was applauded by conservatives and derided by liberals who claim that Trump’s presence on Twitter and Facebook is dangerous.

Trump found an unlikely ally in the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) who supported the company’s decision to reinstate him, saying that it is important for the American public to be able to hear from one of the most popular politicians in the country.

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) defended Meta’s decision to allow former President Donald Trump back on Facebook and Instagram, saying that it is appropriate for the public to have wider access to messaging from one of the most popular political candidates in the country.

“This is the right call. Like it or not, President Trump is one of the country’s leading political figures and the public has a strong interest in hearing his speech,” wrote the ACLU, a group that has increasingly shifted leftward in recent years, on Twitter in response to a New York Times article about Trump’s reinstatement.

Jameel Jaffer, the head of the Knight First Amendment Institute at Columbia University and a former American Civil Liberties Union official, also defended the move. Previously, Jaffer said he supported social media platforms’ ban on Trump’s accounts.
