Kirk Cameron, an actor known for his role on the ABC sitcom Growing Pains, is being banned from reading his Christian children’s book at publicly-funded libraries, who meanwhile are hosting drag queen story hours and other events that center around the LGBTQ community.
Cameron’s new book, ‘As You Grow,’ was written for Brave Books, a Texas-based Christian children’s publishing house. Cameron said that his book “teaches biblical wisdom and the value of producing the fruit of the spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness, self-control.”
Lately, many libraries across the country have been hosting drag queen story time for the children of their communities to attend. There has been significant controversy surrounding these events, especially after photographs were shared of a “story hour” in Portland where kids were laying on top of a drag queen on the floor of the library, or after it was revealed that convicted child sex offenders are permitted to host these story time sessions for children.
These libraries, largely funded by taxpayer dollars, have chosen to prioritize promoting the LGBTQ community while simultaneously shunning the religious community because religion-based messages don’t align with their values.
The Rochambeau Public Library in Providence, Rhode Island, turned down Brave Books’ request to have Cameron’s book read at a story hour, saying, “We are a very queer-friendly library. Our messaging does not align.”
Another public library in San Diego also shut down the publishing company’s request. A library representative said, “Because of how diverse our community is, I don’t know how many people you would get.” However, the library hosts a teen queer book club and other LGBTQ-centered events.
“Telling our stories, highlighting the rich diversity… Those themes that are so important of love, acceptance, and inclusion and seeing yourself represented in the books that are reading,” says one library official on the library’s website.
This suggests that those who make decisions on behalf of the library believe there are more LGBTQ people in their community than there are religious people, which is wildly off-base.
Cameron has reached out to more than 50 public libraries, all of whom have turned his book down. The actor spoke to Fox News, saying, “This is proof that more than ever, we are getting destroyed in the battle for the hearts and minds of our children.”
“Publicly funded libraries are green-lighting ‘gender marker and name change clinics while denying a story time that would involve the reading of a book that teaches biblical wisdom,” said Cameron, “How much more clear can it get?”
“We have to start fighting back, or we will lose our kids to this country,” he concluded.
Trent Talbot, the founder and CEO of Brave Books, also spoke to Fox News, saying, “It is devastating to discover that many of our publicly funded libraries have now become indoctrination centers that refuse to allow biblical wisdom to be taught to our children.”
“The woke left understands that morality is instilled by the age of 10, and they want their morality to win, not the morality that the Bible teaches,” said Talbot.
