After a sex trafficking investigation spanning nearly three years, the Justice Department has finally decided not to charge Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz (FL).

Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Florida)

Gaetz has been under investigation for violating sex trafficking laws and obstructing justice. The Florida Rep has maintained his innocence, continuously insisting that he has never before paid for sex or had sex with an underage girl.

Joel Greenberg, a former Florida county tax collector and associate of Gaetz, pled guilty in May 2021 to six federal charges, including the trafficking of a minor. Greenberg allegedly introduced Gaetz to a 17-year-old girl whom he was accused of having sex with and paying her for travel.

In November 2021, Stephen Alford, a former DOJ official who accused Gaetz of sex trafficking pled guilty in federal court to one count of wire fraud after he tried to extort $25 million from Gaetz’s family while threatening to smear his name.

On Wednesday, Gaetz’s attorneys Marc Mukasey and Isabelle Kirshner reported that the Justice Department has “concluded their investigation into Congressman Gaetz and allegations related to sex trafficking and obstruction of justice and they have determined not to bring any charges against him.”

After this announcement, fellow Republicans cheered on Gaetz for the victory and condemned the DOJ for damaging his reputation.

Rogen O’Handley, a conservative lawyer and political commentator labeled the investigation a “failed smear campaign” by the deep state against MAGA and called for Gaetz to “sue the defamers.”

Republican director and producer Robby Starbuck congratulated Gaetz on finally getting through the DOJ’s bogus investigation.

Starbuck posted to Twitter saying, “Matt Gaetz has been vindicated once and for all today. Congrats on beating these vile, desperate, swamp creatures in the deep state [Matt Gaetz]. It’s no small feat to take the worst lie you can lay on a man and turn it into a total embarrassment of the activists who did it to you.”
