Chris Sharpe, the father of a 2nd grader at Cecil S. Collins School, was shocked to see a health handout that his daughter brought home from school that discussed hijabs, thwabs, and a quote from the Quran.
“Everybody was up in arms,” Sharpe said. Numerous parents were highly upset and contacted the school about the possible indoctrination of their children.
On Wednesday morning, Sharpe said Barnegat school officials apologized to parents and explained that it was a simple mistake of a teacher quickly downloading health worksheets online and not carefully reviewing their content. Superintendent Karen Wood said Wednesday afternoon that she was not immediately prepared to make a statement on the matter. Sharpe said the teacher who distributed the worksheet wasn’t his daughter’s regular instructor.
“Obviously you would hope that they were review everything a little bit more, but it happens,” Sharpe said. “I’m very happy to chalk it up as one of those things that just sort of happened.”
All of the parents seem satisfied with the schools explanation and things have gone smoothly since. The real question is was it merely a slip up on the instructors part or something worse? We have seen this type of small time “slipping” all across this country in the last couple of years and it gets under our skin as parents that have to tell our children that the word ‘God’ can’t be used in schools, yet we have to accept the pushing of a radical ideology that is historically geared to killing Christians.
Let’s hope that this incident is simply that, an innocent incident.
