Socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez claimed over the weekend that the crime uptick in New York City is likely because struggling residents are forced to shoplift in order to “feed their child.” Yes, you read that right.

AOC suggested in a virtual town hall hosted that crime is soaring in NYC not because city leaders and career politicians have derided the New York Police Department for months, prompting hundreds of early retirements or that top officials are talking about slashing the budget for police, but rather because lower-income individuals are being forced to shoplift in order to put food on the table.

“So why is this uptick in crime happening?” Ocasio-Cortez said on Zoom. “Well, let’s think about it. Do we think this has to do with the fact there’s record unemployment in the United States right now? The fact that people are at a level of economic desperation that we have not seen since the Great Recession? Maybe this has to do with the fact that people aren’t paying their rent and are scared to pay their rent, and so they go out and they need to feed their child and they don’t have money so you maybe have to, they’re put in a position where they feel like they either need to shoplift some bread or go hungry that night.

The Hill covered Ocasio-Cortez’s stunt-filled town hall with lies and coverups galore:

The New York Police Department (NYPD) has reported a substantial increase in shootings and violent crimes in recent weeks, as officials warn there’s “a storm on the horizon” amid calls for changes.

On Saturday, the New York Post reported 15 shootings in 15 hours, just one week after the city witnessed a holiday weekend with 44 shootings and at least eight killed. The radical representative and vocal supporter of the “defund police” movement insists, however, that the crime spike is unrelated to the $1 billion NYPD budget cuts announced by Mayor Bill de Blasio, as previously reported by 100% FED Up. The council also “reallocated” nearly $500 million of the department’s capital budget to other “badly needed infrastructure” and slashed overtime spending by $352 million.

AOC responded to questions asking what society would like after defunding the police. She answered, “When people ask me ‘What does a world where we defund the police look like?’, I tell them it looks like a suburb.” Just how far will socialist AOC go to cover the mess created by Democrats in NYC?
