In the wake of a dismal monthly jobs report for the Biden administration, where only 210,000 jobs were added in the month of November, an Arkanssas iHop left a scathing message explaining why they had to reduce their hours. “Due to the fact that Biden gave out way too much free money and nobody wants to work anymore. We are forced to reduce our hours during this week.” The sign reads.
One angry customer took to Twitter and said he would no longer be giving the iHop his business after seeing the sign. ‘Hey, iHop my family and I genuinely enjoy going to your restaurants,’ they posted on Twitter. ‘But if this is corporate policy, I guess we won’t be visiting anymore. I know we’re just one small family, and we don’t matter, but we can’t eat at a place that condones this.’
Earlier this year, the Biden administration suggested that states extend covid unemployment benefits and even offered federal funds to do so. Not one state took the Biden administration up on the offer, even blue states such as New York. Covid unemployment benefits offered by the federal government were often more than laid off employees made while employed, due to an added $600 a week. Half of all states eventually opted out of the program before it was even set to expire, including Louisiana, which is led by a Democratic Governor.
The Governor said he was “trying to find a ‘reasonable balance’ between helping the jobless and assisting businesses that say they’re having trouble finding people to fill their employee ranks.”
The November jobs report where only 210,000 jobs were added was the worst report all year. The Wall Street Journal forecasted an increase of 573,000 jobs. This is despite the fact that businesses have taken unprecedented steps to attract new employees including generous sign on bonuses and increases in pay.
