Overnight, the location of the death by Atlanta police of Rayshard Brooks was torched by protesters. The interstate was also shut down when a line of protesters filled the highway (see below).

A southwest Atlanta Wendy’s went up in flames, assuring the loss of jobs and the loss of a business by a franchisee. It’s difficult to understand how burning a business to the ground accomplishes anything.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing. One police officer was fired, and another is suspended.

Atlanta Police Chief Erika Shields stepped down after the killing of 27-year-old Rayshard Brooks by the Atlanta police. Brooks was fatally shot by officers in a struggle.

Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms said, “I do not believe that this was a justified use of deadly force and have called for the immediate termination of the officer.”

This sparked a new wave of protests in Atlanta after turbulent demonstrations that followed the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis had simmered down.

Protesters completely blocked off the connector in Atlanta tonight. Both I-75 and I-85 are shut down.

Video below shows a line of people stretching across the highway:

Here we go again with the riots and looting:

Fires broke out at the Wendy’s restaurant where the shooting incident involving Atlanta police and Rayshard Brooks happened Friday night. The BP gas station next door is being looted.
