Watch the horrific footage:

“Currently, numerous agencies, including the Coast Guard and fire department have just declared a mass casualty incident as they are responding to the Key Bridge located in Baltimore, Maryland. After a large container ship struck the Key Bridge, causing it to collapse completely, there are reports of multiple cars and people may be in the water following the collapse all still missing at this point,” Rawsalerts writes.

“Reports indicate significant damage, with half of the bridge submerged in the water. This situation is still developing.”

“Baltimore City Fire spokesman Kevin Cartwright has confirmed at least seven vehicles, including at least one tractor-trailer-sized vehicle, have collapsed into the water,” Rawsalerts noted.

The ship that struck the Francis Scott Key Bridge is reportedly the Dali out of Singapore.

FOX 5 DC reports:

A portion of Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge collapsed after it was struck by a large container ship early Tuesday morning, sending several vehicles and people into the frigid water below.

The collapse happened after a large cargo vessel apparently hit one of the supports of the bridge around 1:30 a.m., causing it to snap and buckle. Several vehicles plunged into the Patapsco River after the impact caused the roadway above to break apart. The vessel caught fire after hitting the support. Black smoke billowed out of it and into the sky above.

Officials say sonar indicated that several vehicles are in the water, where the temperature was about 47 degrees.

At a press update near the bridge, Baltimore Fire Chief James Wallace said two people had been rescued, but others are believed to still be in the water. The number of those missing fluctuated between seven and 20.

Rawsalerts shared footage of the aftermath in the morning daylight.

“Watch As morning daylight approaches, it reveals the devastating aftermath of an early morning incident after a large cargo ship from Singapore crashed into the Scott Key Bridge, triggering a mass casualty event as the entire bridge complex collapsed. At least seven vehicles, including one tractor-trailer-sized vehicle, have plunged into the water. Two people have been rescued, while seven remain missing. However, officials are uncertain about this figure. Sonar has detected multiple vehicles in the water, with officials stating there was absolutely no indication of an intentional act. Search and rescue efforts are expected to take hours or days to weeks,” Rawsalerts writes.

From USA Today:

The Francis Scott Key Bridge − a major span critical to East Coast shipping − collapsed early Tuesday after it was struck by a large cargo ship, prompting a massive emergency response for at least seven people, including possible construction workers, believed to be in the water.

James Wallace, chief of the Baltimore City Fire Department, said at a news conference that around 1:30 a.m. a vessel leaving the Port of Baltimore struck the Key Bridge, causing the collapse. Several vehicles were on the bridge at the time of impact and were plunged into the Patapsco River. There were also multiple contractors working on the bridge at the time, said Maryland Transportation Secretary Paul Wiedefeld. It’s unclear how many workers were on the bridge when it collapsed.

Wallace said two people were rescued in the initial hours of the search. One was unharmed and the other remains in “very serious condition,” he said. At least seven people were believed to be in the water, though, Wallace noted, it’s unclear whether that number includes the two who were rescued.

The crew that was on the ship when it collided with the bridge remains on the vessel, which needs to be assessed for damage before rescuers can board it, Wallace said.

Wiedefeld said at a news conference that so far authorities have found no evidence to indicate the incident was intentional or involved terrorism.

“We don’t see anything that relates to that,” he said. “It’s an open investigation but there’s nothing that points in that direction.”
