Hunter Biden said he “may have to” run for president in 2028 during an interview with radio host John Catsimatidis on WABC’s “Cats Roundtable.”
“If I get your [Catsimatidis’] endorsement, I may have to [run for president]. The things I care most about is the 50 million Americans that are still suffering with their addictions,” Biden said, according to the New York Post.
Biden, 56, was pressed on why he thinks he’s qualified to run for president.
“Here is my qualification for becoming president, if you believe in the Constitution of the United States of America that you swear to uphold and protect. I want the next president to commit to one thing: to adhering to the rule of law,” he said.

The Delaware-born artist’s previous foray into a presidential campaign came via the “Laptop from H**l” revelations published in The Post — which detailed evidence he allegedly trafficked on his father’s position as vice president to enrich his family.
Biden’s laptop also contained countless explicit photos of him with scantily clad women, performing lurid acts or taking drugs and was used as evidence in his gun and tax offense trials.
Though he has five children with three different women — including a former stripper — Biden recently disclosed that he is “48.6 percent” gay on the Luke Beasley Show podcast.
Biden did not commit to launching a 2028 presidential bid and instead mentioned several likely contenders who would make up the Democratic field.
“I love Gavin Newsom, personally,” Biden said.
He also mentioned Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear and Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker.

Newsom, who has acknowledged eying a run after this year’s midterms, has separately polled ahead of both Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio in hypothetical general election matchups, according to an August Emerson College/The Hill survey. Other Democrats frequently mentioned as potential 2028 contenders include Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-GA), former Vice President Kamala Harris, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.
Any Biden candidacy would almost assuredly draw renewed scrutiny of his colorful personal and legal history. He was convicted in 2024 on federal gun charges tied to a 2018 firearm purchase, during which he falsely denied drug use, and separately pleaded guilty to federal tax charges. His father’s sweeping, unconditional pardon in 2024 covered any such conduct dating back a decade.
