Amidst the border security crisis that Biden is dealing with, he is now being investigated by the Government Accountability Office (GAO) to determine if he broke the law by halting the construction of Trump’s border wall. Republican senators have joined together and sent a letter to the GAO outlining the unlawful actions of Biden and imploring them to conduct a thorough review of the situation.
Back in December, Congress approved almost $1.4 billion to build the border wall, a project which Biden immediately discontinued when he was inaugurated. Although Congress is in charge of determining where funds will go (not the president), Biden still chose to ignore this and take matters into his own hands by freezing funding for the border wall.
A group of 40 Republican senators led by W.Va. Sen. Shelley Moore Capito sent in a letter to the GAO stating that after the money allocated to the wall was frozen, “operational control of our southern border was compromised and a humanitarian and national security crisis has ensued”. The letter goes on to present their belief that Biden’s actions are in violation of the Impoundment Control Act (ICA). Since yesterday, more than 60 Republican members of the House have added their names to this letter with the hope that the GAO will conduct a serious investigation into Biden’s actions.
🚨This morning, I led 40 of my @SenateGOP colleagues in a letter to @USGAO highlighting President Biden's suspension of border wall funding & construction without lawful justification.

The GAO’s process of reviewing the letter could take several weeks. In the meantime, the border crisis continues to escalate with floods of immigrants and unclear advancements in properly sheltering/relocating the large number of minors that are being held at border camps.
