Both Democratic and Republican lawmakers are launching criticism at President Joe Biden for his decision to send 1,500 active-duty U.S. troops to the U.S.-Mexico border after refusing to acknowledge the border crisis created by his regime.

Title 42, a Trump-era policy that was implemented to curb the spread of COVID-19, permitted immigration authorities to quickly turn back immigrants without allowing them to apply for asylum. This policy is set to expire on May 11

As the end date of Title 42 draws near, the country is bracing for potentially tens of thousands of migrants surging into the U.S., while the current flow of migrants is already overwhelming border agents and border towns.

According to the Department of Homeland Security, there are already 2,500 National Guard soldiers deployed at the border. The new troops sent by Biden will reportedly serve, mainly in administrative and transport roles, for 90 days.

As the Biden regime begins to quietly acknowledge that their open border policy might not have been a good idea, they are now planning to send troops to assist at the border – a move that Democrats, including Biden, largely criticized Donald Trump for while he was in office.

In October 2018, Trump sent over 5,000 active-duty troops to the border, prompting more than 100 Democratic members of Congress to send a letter to then-Defense Secretary James Mattis accusing Trump of exploiting migrants trying to enter the U.S.

Now, the Democratic lawmakers are mostly keeping quiet after the Biden regime announced their plan to send troops to the border.

Some Democrats, however, have spoken out in opposition to Biden’s decision, complaining that it is a “militarization” and is “unacceptable.”

Bob Menendez (D-NJ), the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations Chair, criticized Biden’s move, saying, “The Biden administration’s militarization of the border is unacceptable.”

“There is already a humanitarian crisis in the Western Hemisphere, and deploying military personnel only signals that migrants are a threat that requires our nation’s troops to contain. Nothing could be further from the truth,” said Menendez.

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) also expressed her disapproval of the policy, saying it will victimize “the innocent.”

“The right to seek asylum is a basic human right, protected under US and international law,” said Omar. “The victims of this policy will be the innocent – people who committed no crime other than daring to seek a better life in the United States of America.”

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre tried to brush off questions regarding Biden’s new border plan by downplaying its significance. She said, “DOD personnel have been supporting CBP at the border for almost two decades now. So this is a common practice.”

Fox News White House correspondent Peter Doocy asked Jean-Pierre why, if the border is secure as the Biden regime claims, does the president feel the need to send down troops.

“More work can be done,” replied Jean-Pierre.

Biden also received criticism from Republican lawmakers who called him out for continuing to pretend like illegal immigration is decreasing, while the U.S. has seen record-breaking illegal immigration numbers over the past year.

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) accused Biden of lacking a plan for how to handle the anticipated immigration surge after Title 42 expires.

“Title 42 ends in NINE days,” Jordan tweeted. “The last line of defense to stop rampant illegal immigration.”

“Joe Biden has no real plan. But his White House wants you to believe illegal immigration is down 90%. Unbelievable,” he added.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R), who has been on the frontlines dealing with the immigration crisis that’s heavily affecting his state, also had some thoughts to share about Biden sending troops to the border.

He tweeted,

“Biden says he will deploy 1,500 troops to the border – primarily to do paperwork. And only for 90 days. This does nothing to stop illegal immigration. I deployed up to 10,000 Texas National Guard to the border to fill the gaps created by Biden’s reckless open border policies.”

Rep. Guy Reschenthaler (R-Penn.) pointed out all the steps Biden could have taken before the border crisis became as big of a problem.

“Biden could have finished the wall,” said Reschenthaler. “He could have enforced our nation’s laws. He could have protected our national security. But he chose to do nothing. now, active-duty troops head to the border to clean up his mess.”
