A KLM flight from Oslo to Amsterdam had an unexpected “grassroots” experience on Saturday.

Turns out a hydraulic failure forced an emergency landing.

The Boeing 737-800 diverted to Oslo Torp Sandefjord Airport.

What tipped off the pilots?

There was a mysterious “loud noise” and smoke from the left engine.

You know, the usual trademark signs of a Boeing airplane.

And when it landed, it was skidding off the runway and onto the grass.

At least the bumpy ending to this was one that all the passengers would walk away from and live to tell the tale.

Not sure why people are still flying on Boeings.

Are there more adrenaline junkies out there than we would’ve guessed?

Me, I’d rather use an inflatable raft to get to my destination that get anywhere near a Boeing.

New York Post reports:

A KLM Royal Dutch Airlines flight bound for Amsterdam from Norway skidded off the runway after a hydraulic failure forced the plane to reroute for an emergency landing on Saturday.

The Boeing 737-800 was en route from Oslo, Norway, to Amsterdam, but diverted from its planned route and landed at the Oslo Torp Sandefjord Airport after “a loud noise was heard,” the airline said in a statement.

Smoke was spotted coming from the left engine and pilots called in the emergency and said they couldn’t control the plane, local Norwegian media outlets reported.

After landing on the runway, the aircraft suddenly veered completely off the tarmac “into the grass at low speed.”

All 176 passengers and six crew members onboard were uninjured, KLM said.

The Express Tribune adds:

This incident marks the third aviation accident within a 24-hour period, following a tragic crash in South Korea, which left 179 people presumed dead.

Additionally, an Air Canada flight was also forced to make an emergency landing on the same day due to a malfunction with its landing gear at Halifax Stanfield International Airport.

As investigations continue, authorities are examining the possibility of a hydraulic system failure contributing to the crash at Oslo Torp.

And this was just 1 of 3 within 24 hours.

For those who prefer water instead of flying, there’s plenty of options on eBay.

(This is tongue in cheek, of course. If you ever do use a raft or sail, be sure to exercise all necessary safety precautions.)
