On Friday, Sir Elton John performed at the White House for “A Night When Hope and History Rhyme,” where he was surprised by the presentation of a National Humanities Medal. Joe Biden, who presented him with the award, made a very awkward comment about the government’s HIV and AIDS taxpayer funds.

At the event, Biden presented John with the National Humanities Medal, shocking the music icon and moving him to tears. Biden praised John for his unwavering fight to support HIV and AIDS activism, referring to the singer as “an enduring icon and advocate with absolute courage, who found purpose to challenge convention, shatter stigma and advance the simple truth, that everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and respect.”

After Biden’s scripted remarks and the presentation of the award, Biden went off-script, which never works out well for him.

“By the way, it’s all his fault that we’re spending $6 billion in taxpayer money this month to help AIDS – fight HIV/AIDS,” Biden announced, using quite awkward working in his attempted praise for the singer.

Jill Biden clapped along with the rest of the crowd despite her moronic husband’s poorly-worded remarks.
