They were bitter rivals during the primary season…and for good reason. If Donald Trump had not busted onto the scene, there’s a very good likelihood that Ted Cruz would have been our next President. He’s tough-minded and not afraid to duke it out with the press or with other members of the Senate in order to satisfy his conservative base and maintain his status as one of the most committed conservatives in the Senate. Senator Ted Cruz is probably the last person Americans expected to come to President Trump’s defense, as he works to help make it possible for Trump to keep one of his most important promises to voters.
The first time candidate Donald Trump said it, the crowd seemed a bit stunned and maybe even a little bewildered. The media mocked him and accused him of making unrealism promises and of pandering for votes. The second time Trump said it, the crowd went wild and by the third time Trump said it, the crowd was going wild and chanting in unison. It went something like this: Trump would promise the crowd that if he was elected that he was going to build a massive wall on our southern border. He would then follow it up with, “Who’s gonna pay for it?” The crowd would yell back, “Mexico!” And before you know it, Trump had massive crowds chanting the same thing at every rally. Watch here as the crowd cheers wildly for Trump, as he promises to make Mexico pay for the wall:
Now one unlikely Senator is about to put forth a bill, paving the way for Mexico to pay for the wall and in the process, helping Trump to keep one of his most important campaign promises.
Republican Sen. Ted Cruz wants to make Mexicans pay for the wall — at least some of them, that is.
The El Chapo Act was introduced by Cruz Tuesday, according to Axios, and it would use seized assets from drug lords such as Mexican Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman to pay for the wall on the southwestern border.
Federal prosecutors are trying to seize $14 billion in assets from El Chapo, and the border wall has been estimated to cost $21.6 billion. “Fourteen billion dollars will go a long way toward building a wall that will keep Americans safe and hinder the illegal flow of drugs, weapons, and individuals across our southern border,” Sen. Cruz told Axios.
