Tensions have been running high after two mass shootings happened in the United States only ten days apart from each other.

On May 14th, ten people were killed and three injured in Buffalo after an active shooter opened fire in a supermarket.

On May 24th, nineteen students and two teachers were killed in Uvalde, Texas in what was the second-worst school shooting in US history.

In April, a gunman opened fire on a Brooklyn subway train, injuring 23 people.

Yesterday, at least sixteen people were injured after people were led to believe that there was an active shooter at a boxing match in the Barclays Center in New York.  They reportedly believed there was a mass shooting due to loud noises outside.

It is not yet known what noise prompted the audience to believe that there was a mass shooting.

A New York City Police Department (NYPD) spokesperson told The Hill that someone yelled about a shot being fired and the crowd began “attempting to flee everywhere.”

Seven people were transported to hospitals, the rest were treated at the location.

“The entire event unfolded over just a few minutes, lasting until police confirmed there was no active shooter. It’s unclear what exactly prompted the report of an active shooter,” The Hill’s report says.

Tennis star Naomi Osaka was present at the match and tweeted, “I was just in the Barclays center and suddenly I heard shouting and saw people running, then we were being yelled at that there was an active shooter and we had to huddle in a room and close the doors, I was so f-cking petrified man.”
