OUCH! It’s early in the season, and the Red Sox-Yankees rivalry is already back!
It didn’t take long for the Yankees-Red Sox rivalry to get heated.
NYP-Tyler Austin smashed his bat and charged the mound after Red Sox reliever Joe Kelly plunked him in retaliation in the top of the seventh inning of Wednesday’s game at Fenway Park. On a 2-1 pitch, Kelly threw at Austin’s back — avenging a late slide Austin made into second base in the third inning that caused both benches to clear — and Austin’s reaction led the teams to storm the field again.
Austin sprinted for Kelly, while being held back by catcher Christian Vazquez, and punches started flying as players from both teams joined in the scuffle.

Austin and Kelly were both ejected from the game. Yankees third base coach Phil Nevin was also tossed for his involvement.

Boston Red Sox pitcher Joe Kelly looked pretty disheveled after the brawl. Twitter user “Richard Lee-Sam” hilariously compared him to “somebody’s Italian uncle”:
