A Chicago Grand Jury just indicted Empire actor Jussie Smollett on 16 felony counts of disorderly conduct for filing a false police report claiming a hate crime.

JUSSIE SMOLLETT GRAND JURY INDICTMENT

CBS 2 reports that Smollett could face probation to up to three years in prison.

According to the indictment:

“Jussie Smollett knew that at the time … there was no reasonable ground for believing that such offenses had been committed.”

Smollett told lies to two different police officers, and the grand jury decided they would count each lie that Smollett told:

“If you have a crime, and that crime has multiple parts to it, you charge all those separate parts.

Last month, Smollett told police he was attacked at 2 a.m. when two masked men shouted racist and homophobic things at him. He also claimed they beat him and put a noose around his neck.

After an investigation, police said Smollett had paid Ola and Abel Osundairo (pictured above) $3,500 to stage the attack.

Video of the brothers buying supplies for the attack surfaced as evidence:

The brothers also bought supplies for the attack and were paid with a check by Smollett.

Smollet also sent himself hate mail:
