With a comfortable lead by 12%, Republican Cindy Hyde-Smith is the projected winner for Senator in Mississippi. This makes her the first Mississippi woman elected to Congress. This is fantastic news for the Trump administration because they now have a sizeable lead in the Senate of 53-47.
This could be far better than winning the House.
One of the best things to come from this win is the fact that Senator Kamala Harris might be booted off of the Judiciary Committee.
Harris is the most junior Dem Senator on the Judiciary Committee and now that Hyde-Smith has won, Harris is likely going to be replaced. We certainly won’t miss Harris’ grandstanding and lecturing during Judiciary Committee hearings. She was often condescending to those who were testifying.
Liberal advocacy groups and Democrat Chuck Schumer have already been making noise about trying to make a deal to keep Harris on the Judiciary Committee. Let’s hope it doesn’t happen. Who can forget her atrocious behavior during the Brett Kavanaugh hearings? She made false accusations against Kavanaugh and tried to raise money off of her “performance”.
