Audrey Hale, the disturbed shooter behind the Nashville massacre, wrote a friend an Instagram message shortly before going into Covenant Christian School Monday and committing mass murder. The Insta account was listed under the name Aiden and was where she told her middle school friend she was saying her final goodbye. Hale wrote to her friend and previous basketball teammate, Averianna Patton.
News of the dark Instagram messages came after police body cam footage was released on Tuesday showing the moment officers confronted and killed Hale. The footage showed officers firing multiple bullets into the assailant’s body. The police entered the school and confronted Hale moments later. Hale was once a student at the private Christian school.
Patton received the cryptic messages from Audrey saying,
“This is my last goodbye. I love you. See you again in another life, Audrey (Aiden).”
Audrey’s friend responded to the message saying,
“Audrey, you have so much life to live. I pray God keeps and covers you.”
Audrey responded,
“I know, but I don’t want to live. I’m so sorry. I’m not trying to upset you or get attention. I just need to die. I wanted to tell you first because you’re the most beautiful person I’ve ever seen and known all my life. My family doesn’t know what I’m about to do.”
“One day, this will make more sense,” Hale continued, “I’ve left more than enough evidence behind. But something bad is about to happen.”
She ended her message with, “You’ll probably hear about me on the news after I die.”

The Nashville Police Chief, John Drake, said investigators suspect Hale had “some resentment” towards the Christian school after attending it as a child. They are looking into what role being transgender played in Hale’s feelings towards Covenant before she carried out her horrific hate crime against children.
On Tuesday, reporters were also told that Hale was under medical care for an “emotional disorder.” Yet somehow had managed to legally purchase seven firearms and kept them a secret. Hale’s parents apparently were unaware of the weapons purchases.
While the police know the attack was planned and rehearsed after finding drawings and evidence that Hale canvassed the school, they believe the attacks against the six victims were random.
The body camera footage of two first responders from the Metro Nashville Police Department who apprehended Hale was posted on Twitter Tuesday. Rex Engelbert and Michael Collazo were the officers who took down the school’s active shooter.
