President Trump just announced on Twitter that Attorney General Jeff Sessions has resigned:

We are pleased to announce that Matthew G. Whitaker, Chief of Staff to Attorney General Jeff Sessions at the Department of Justice, will become our new Acting Attorney General of the United States. He will serve our Country well….

….We thank Attorney General Jeff Sessions for his service, and wish him well! A permanent replacement will be nominated at a later date.

President Trump has also named Sessions acting replacement, Matthew G. Whitaker, Chief of Staff to Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

Many conservatives and conservative leaders have been pushing for President Trump to fire Jeff Sessions, who they believe was unwilling to allow the declassification of the FISA surveillance warrants on Trump’s campaign members when Trump was a private citizen running for office.
