Miami Mayor Francis Suarez has tested positive for COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus, four days after the mayor attended a Miami event with a Brazilian government official who later tested positive for the virus.
Suarez confirmed the positive test Friday morning in an interview with the Miami Herald.
“It is confirmed that I have the coronavirus,” Suarez said. “I did test positive for it.”
Only days ago, the mayor announced that because he was in contact with Brazil President of Brazil Jair Bolsonaro’s communications secretary, Fabio Wajngarten, during a 3-day trip to Mar-a-Lago. Wajngarten, who also was on the trip, has since tested positive for coronavirus.
The Miami Mayor has now tested positive for coronavirus.
The official, Fabio Wajngarten (pictured below wearing hat), is the press secretary for Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro.
A picture (see below) was taken last weekend at Mar-a-Lago with the president and vice president. Wajngarten posted the photo with President Trump on Instagram.
President Trump was asked this morning about contact with the infected man:
“Let’s put it this way…I’m not concerned.”

It was erroneously reported earlier today that Brazil President Jair Bolsonaro tested positive for coronavirus. According to Fox News, the President of Brazil’s son says the news that his father tested positive for coronavirus is not true, that in fact, his father tested negative for the coronavirus.
