Mitt Romney just announced he’ll be voting on a Supreme Court Justice nominee. This is a shocking move since Romney had reportedly said he would not vote on a nominee until after the election. Also, Romney has been a wild card in many past decisions, often going against President Trump as he did on impeachment.

Romney released a statement today (see full statement below) saying he intends to follow the Constitution:

“I intend to follow the Constitution and precedent in considering the president’s nominee. If the nominee reaches the Senate floor, I intend to vote based upon their qualifications”

Romney’s decision provides the votes needed to move ahead with the process to fill Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s seat. Democrats are furious that Senator Romney would vote to impeach Trump and then turn around and say he’ll support a vote.
