President Trump just announced a big shakeup in his administration.

He is appointing Will Scharf as the new White House Counsel, effective September 1st.

Scharf will be replacing Dave Warrington, who has served in the role since the start of President Trump’s second term.

In addition to White House Counsel, Will Scharf will also be promoted as Assistant to the President.

William Scharf is a crackshot lawyer who served on President Trump’s defense team in the presidential immunity case that the Supreme Court ultimately decided in 2024.

In his current role, Scharf oversees the administrative work in the Oval Office.

He is the guy you most frequently see reading off executive orders before President Trump signs them.

Will Scharf also leads the National Capital Planning Commission, which has approved of the White House ballroom’s construction.

The White House counsel’s job is to advise on legal and policy questions related to the presidency. The office is the primary White House contact for the Justice Department, and it handles presidential pardons, works on judicial appointments and reviews legislation. The office also helps investigate and manage congressional investigations into the administration and lawsuits against the president when he is sued in his official capacity.

Trump in July 2025 had named Scharf as chair of the National Capital Planning Commission, the executive branch agency with jurisdiction over construction and major renovations to government buildings in the region.

Trump’s ballroom won final approval from the NCPC in April, though a divided federal appeals court ruled Friday that construction on the project must stop because Congress had not approved it. Trump has vowed to appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court.

The project is already well on its way and has begun to rise above ground on the east side of the White House.
