President Trump announced Friday that CNN, MS NOW and Politico are barred from the White House “effective immediately,” escalating his long-running dispute with several major news organizations.
In his social-media statement, the president accused the three outlets of publishing “FICTION and LIES” about his administration and the United States. He also said additional outlets could be named later.
The announcement itself circulated quickly, including an image of President Trump’s full statement.

Axios reports that the announcement took effect immediately, according to the president’s post. The outlet also noted that the White House had not yet provided a separate response explaining how the restriction would be carried out.
That missing detail is important because White House press access has several layers. The initial announcement did not specify whether the restriction applies to general grounds access, press credentials, the briefing room, smaller presidential events, or the rotating press pool that follows the president.
The practical impact could therefore vary considerably depending on the formal instructions given to security and press staff. A restriction on a small pooled event is different from revoking a correspondent’s general credential or excluding an entire organization from the complex.
The first reports also did not identify a duration for the ban or a written policy beyond the president’s social-media announcement. President Trump tied the decision directly to the outlets’ coverage and said more organizations could be named later, leaving the next formal White House guidance as the key unanswered question.
