PRESIDENT TRUMP promised the people of America that they would have a secure border, but Democrats like Nancy Pelosi and Chuk Schumer don’t want that. The obstructionist Democrats have tried to make this shutdown as painful for federal workers and to the American people as possible.

President Trump didn’t want to do this as Obama did it with a pen and a phone. He wanted a consensus on border security but the Democrats played politics to try and block any attempt at negotiations or compromise.

The economic consequences and the optics of the shutdown have put tremendous pressure on the president.

Will the Democrats turn their backs on President Trump’s wish to negotiate if he opens the government? It’s why President Trump has been so firm on his wish to keep the government closed.

He appeared in the Rose Garden to tell us there is a change in the air and that there is a deal in the offing. Have the American people gotten what they want in a secure border and an end to the government shutdown?

PRESIDENT TRUMP’S REMARKS:

We have reached a deal to end the shutdown and reopen the federal government.

I have a powerful alternative but I didn’t want to use it at this time.

President Trump thanked federal workers at this difficult time and thanked the American people.

“I will sign a bill to open our government for 3 weeks until February 15th, I will make sure that all employees receive their backpay very quickly.”

President Trump announces experts will come together to put together a Homeland Security package that the president will then sign into law.

“This is an opportunity for all parties to work together.”

“Walls should not be controversial”

“Border patrol agents have told me walls work.”

“They keep criminals out. They prevent people from making the dangerous journey. They keep drugs out.”

“It’s just common sense…walls work.”

The president continued to discuss the problems at the border that make it a crisis to our nation. He ended his speech with an assertion that he will use the national emergency card if there is not an agreement made.
