President Trump just announced “historic action to deliver a future of safety and security for Americans of every race, religion, color, and creed.”

He is signing the executive order on police reform today and spoke in the Rose Garden giving details:

“I’m signing an executive order encouraging police departments nationwide to adopt the highest professional standards to serve their communities. These standards will be as high and as strong as there is on earth.”

President Trump praised the “good and great” police officers and talked about the dangers they face every day:

The president let it be known that he does not support the current effort to “Defund the Police’:

“We have to find common ground but I strongly oppose the radical and dangerous efforts to defund, dismantle, and dissolve our police departments.”

Three key reforms that President Trump has in his executive order on police reform:

-De-escalation training
-“Chokeholds will be banned unless an officer’s life is at risk”
-Requirements to report “significant issues” with officers with troubling records

President Trump called out previous administrations for their inaction on police reform:

“Many of the same politicians now presenting themselves as the solution are the same ones who have failed for decades on schools, jobs, justice and crime…”
