In November of last year, the husband to former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Ca.) was violently attacked with a hammer in the couple’s California home.
The attack made national headlines just a week before the upcoming midterm elections, with many news outlets claiming, without evidence, that the attack was politically motivated.
Others questioned various details surrounding the attack, including the attackers claim that he was friends with Paul Pelosi and his relatively muted reaction to an intruder being in his home.
After a coalition of news outlets requested that police footage of the attack was released, a San Francisco judge agreed to do so and body camera footage was put out today.
Just seconds before the attack, an officer attempted to de-escalate the situation by asking the attacker to drop the hammer. Then he descended on Pelosi with his weapon.
An officer asks, ‘What’s going on man?’ DePape replies, ‘Everything’s good.’
The officer says, ‘Drop the hammer.’ The suspect tells them, ‘Ummm… nope.’
Then, Paul attempts to twist the hammer out of DePape’s hand, but the suspect regains control of the weapon and begins to strike multiple times.

A San Francisco court has released the shocking police bodycam footage showing the moment Paul Pelosi was violently assaulted with a hammer in his home in October.
Paul, the husband of former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, was asleep at their San Francisco home just before 2:00am on October 28 when 42-year-old David DePape broke in and beat him with a hammer, prosecutors allege.
The video shows two police officers arriving at the Pelosi’s home, knocking on the door and waiting around 20 seconds before it is answered.
Paul, in a pajama top and boxer shorts, answers the door as he and DePape both vie for control of a hammer.
They each have a hand on the weapon while Paul has a drink in his left hand.
