ABC News 4 reported:

A bomb threat has resulted in the closure of a major road in the Upstate Thursday evening, Governor Henry McMaster announced. I-85 northbound and southbound in Greenville County is closed near Mile Marker 44, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Road detours are posted but the public is asked to avoid I-85 in that area until further notice, troopers said.

The bomb threat was issued during a traffic stop and traffic will resume once a tractor trailer is swept and cleared by SLED’s bomb squad, McMaster said.

One suspect has been taken into custody regarding the bomb threat.

Charleston WCSC-TV confirmed:

The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office said one person is in custody after a suspicious package was found Thursday on I-85.

According to South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT), the incident caused a back-up near Exit 44 at White Horse Road in Greenville. Officials are asking drivers to avoid this area. As of 5:25 p.m., all lanes are blocked.

Greenville County dispatch said the incident involved a tractor-trailer.

Deputies said SWAT and Bomb team members are on scene assisting the South Carolina State Transport Police who requested assistance following a traffic stop just after 3:30 p.m.

The State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) bomb squad is also assisting with this investigation.
