Tucker Carlson, the highest-rated prime-time host on Fox News, is leaving the network after his final show was aired on Friday. After the news of the highly-rated host’s departure broke, Fox News’s stock price plummeted.
In a statement, Fox News announced Carlson’s exit from the network, saying, “Fox News Media and Tucker Carlson have agreed to part ways.”
“We thank him for his service to the network as a host and prior to that as a contributor,” Fox continued. “Mr. Carlson’s last program was Friday, April 21st. Fox News Tonight will air live at 8 PM/ET starting this evening as an interim show helmed by rotating FOX News personalities until a new host is named.”

Fox News host Harris Faulkner announced Carlson’s departure from the company on the air on Monday, saying, “We have some news from within our Fox Family. Fox News media and Tucker Carlson have mutually agreed to part ways. Tucker’s last show was this last Friday.”
Faulkner added that the network will be assigning interim hosts to Carlson’s usual timeslot until the role is officially filled by a new host.
Tucker Carlson Tonight was one of the most-watched shows on American cable news since its start in 2016.
Henry Rodgers, the Chief National Correspondent for the Daily Caller tweeted that, after Fox’s announcement, the network’s stock price crashed.
In the 30 minutes after the announcement of Carlson’s departure broke, Class A shares of Fox Corporation slid as much as 5.6%. The net worth of Rupert Murdoch, Fox Corp’s 92-year-old executive chairman, also slid by $182 million.
This hit comes less than a week after Fox News settled with Dominion Voting Systems for $787.5 million in a defamation lawsuit over the network’s reporting on election fraud, which Carlson often spoke about on his show.
Carlson was one of the Fox hosts who were questioned as part of this lawsuit, and many of his emails and text messages were presented as part of the evidence released ahead of the settlement.
Fox News has not yet specified the reason for Carlson’s departure.
