President Trump has been an active force in Republican politics since he left the White House in January of 2021.

While he has inserted himself in to many high-profile races, he has provided very little comment about a potential 2024 bid to serve out a second term as President.

Trump did say that he would hold off on an official announcement to run until after the 2022 midterms for campaign finance reasons.  Republican Party officials and consultants have said they are relatively certain he will run.

On Thursday, President Trump sat down for an interview with Newsmax where he discussed his potential campaign for President in 2024.

During the interview, he was asked if he would do a joint ticket with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.

Trump sounded fairly interested in the prospect, saying he has a “good relationship” with the popular Republican Governor.

He was also asked about the potential of DeSantis running against him.

Former President Trump said he’s not ruling out Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis as a possible running mate in a potential 2024 presidential bid.

When asked in a Newsmax interview Thursday about a Trump–DeSantis ticket, Trump said he has a good relationship with the Republican governor.

“Well, I get along with him,” Trump said. “I was very responsible for his success, because I endorsed him and he went up like a rocket ship.”

Trump was referring to his 2018 endorsement of DeSantis. And after Trump’s endorsement, DeSantis’s support rapidly increased before he defeated Democrat Andrew Gillum.

The Florida governor has often downplayed suggestions that he run for president in 2024, saying he’s more focused on running the state.

“I don’t know if Ron is running, and I don’t ask him,” Trump told the New Yorker magazine in mid-June. “It’s his prerogative. I think I would win,” he said.
