If you guessed that the federal judge who just sided with House Democrats to demand President Trump’s financial records is an Obama-appointed judge, you guessed right. Amit P. Mehta’s 41-page opinion compared President Trump’s concerns of congressional overreach to those of President Buchanan’s. The problem with the decision by the judge is that it serves no legislative purpose…this is simply a fishing expedition on the president and he knows it:
President Trump just told reporters that he disagrees with this “crazy ruling.” “As far as the financials are concerned, we think it’s totally the wrong decision by obviously an Obama-appointed judge.”
The D.C. based Indian-American judge sided with House Oversight Democrats who are after the president’s financial records. Even though this breathes new life into the investigation into anything that can damage the president, this doesn’t end here. This likely will go on to the Supreme Court for a final decision.
Fox News reports the subpoena seeks access to a slew of Trump financial documents dating back to 2011, including personal records and records of various affiliated business and entities. Democrats pursued the subpoena after former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen testified to Congress in February that the president’s accountants routinely and improperly altered his financial statements — including some signed by Mazars — to misrepresent his assets and liabilities.
