Acclaimed actress Frances Barber has claimed she was verbally accosted by a “sharia” taxi driver who disapproved of her dress.
The 58-year-old star of BBC1 legal drama Silk said she flew into a rage following the incident that happened after a showbusiness awards ceremony.

Barber had been at London’s Old Vic theatre on Sunday night for the Evening Standard Theatre Awards and was wearing a full-length black skirt and high-necked top.
After the event she booked a taxi through cab-hailing app Uber, and when the car arrived she mentioned that it was a cold night.
The driver allegedly responded: “Well if you weren’t so disgustingly dressed…”
In disgust, Barber then tweeted:

The actress told a Twitter follower she was so angry she “got out of cab, slammed door & yelled”.

In response, Uber contacted her on Twitter and said:

A spokesman later said: “We were shocked about this unacceptable incident and immediately reached out to the rider to offer our full support.
“We will of course take appropriate action and would like to again extend our sincere apologies to the rider.”
Earlier, Barber had sent several tweets about what a good time she was having.
