One year after the assassination of Charlie Kirk, an Italian-born sculptor is set to unveil a statue of the late Turning Point USA founder in Times Square.

Sergio Furnari will present the Charlie Kirk sculpture on September 10 at 2:33 p.m., the exact day and time Kirk was shot and killed in Utah last year.

Furnari got to work on the memorial — a 6-foot,-5-inch sculpture painted bronze and funded by his own savings.

“I did the first one in early December,” Furnari said. “It came out good, different than [the final] one, and without a microphone. For me, it was just to test my skills.”

“From there on, I became more passionate about it — just because of the way everybody was making fun of him,” he added. “I feel like they killed him once, and they kill him each time, over and over again.”

Within five months, the statue of a seated Kirk holding his famous microphone and wearing a T-shirt with the word “FREEDOM” adorning the front was complete.

However, the tribute also came with a monumental cost of $100,000, which was paid for by Furnari out of his own pocket.

“If I include my time, [it was] probably more than $100,000,” Furnari told Fox News Digital, adding, “It sounds like a number that is like, ‘Oh my God,’ because there are people that don’t know the value of art.”

Furnari is still looking to recoup the cost of the project and has launched an online fundraiser to crowdfund support, with the promise that “donors of any kind will have their name engraved on the monument’s platform.”

Meanwhile, Gov. Spencer Cox has declared September 10 as “Charlie Kirk Day” in Utah.

“One year ago today, Charlie Kirk came to Utah to take part in a fundamental American tradition: speak openly, debate ideas, and persuade others,” Cox said.

“Today, we honor Charlie’s memory by choosing a politics worthy of our country, one where we stand firmly for what we believe and reject violence. September 10, 2026, is officially Charlie Kirk Day in Utah,” he continued.

Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA, was a conservative activist known for touring college campuses and openly debating students on political issues. The 31-year-old was speaking with students at UVU on Sept. 10, 2025, as part of his American Comeback Tour when he was shot and killed.

Gov. Cox’s declaration described the shooting as a “tragic assassination,” and said Utah is dedicated to being a place where ideas can be debated with conviction rather than animosity or violence. He said the life and work of Charlie Kirk are a reminder that robust public discourse is essential to a healthy democracy.
