While the United States faces major economic and supply chain issues – such as the growing baby formula crisis – Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot has decided to focus her efforts on supporting abortions. She has pledged $500,000 of the city’s money to support abortion access for her own city’s residents and those in neighboring cities/states, while her own city suffers from growing crime rates that require immediate attention.

It’s important to note that Chicago’s projected budget deficit in 2023 is $867 million.

On Monday, Lightfoot announced her plans, and said the money will be put towards lodging, care, “and, if necessary, safe and legal access to an abortion procedure.” The funding will be part of Chicago’s “Justice for All Pledge” that was put into effect following the leaked Supreme Court ruling.

The pledge is intended to “protect and increase access for all safe reproductive, obstetric and gynecological healthcare regardless of the patient’s age, sex, gender identity, race, disability, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, place of residence or immigration status in order to support the choices of all people to have or not bear children on their terms.”

Mayor Lightfoot has also vowed that Chicago will be an “oasis” for abortions if Roe v. Wade is overturned.

“If you look around Chicago, we’ve got a number of states that have the so-called trigger laws that would ban abortion upon the reverse of Roe. So we’ve seen a substantial increase already,” Lightfoot said. “And we’re expecting, frankly, an explosion of new cases from women in Wisconsin, Missouri, potentially Michigan, Indiana. I think the list is long. And Chicago is going to be an oasis in the Midwest, and we’ve got to be ready.”

Calling on other mayors throughout the U.S. to join her pledge, Lightfoot said, “Fundamentally, it reaffirms Chicago as a welcoming city, a city that doesn’t discriminate, and a city that’s going to stand with women.”

Lightfoot has been making a major effort to incite anger among the Left since the draft decision was leaked. She has been insisting that gay and interracial marriages are going to be banned next… a ridiculous, totally unrelated conclusion for the mayor to jump to. She has also been calling for the Left to “take up arms” and turn to violence over this matter.

“The architects of this destruction will not stop at a woman’s right to choose,” Lightfoot said in a statement last week. “The Court’s draft opinion will establish a precedent for gutting the legal underpinnings used to protect against gender-based discrimination overall including women’s rights, trans rights, immigrant rights, and, of course, the right to same-sex and interracial marriage. This decision truly epitomizes the dangers that exist at the intersection of racism and sexism.”

Somehow, being pro-life now equals racism, sexism, and homophobia in the eyes of the Left.

Perhaps the most alarming part of this inflammatory rhetoric is that the Left will blindly believe that the Supreme Court will be moving to outlaw interracial and same-sex marriages, even when these claims are totally fabricated. As a matter of fact, Justice Clarence Thomas – who the Left hates most of all – is a black man married to a white woman, and it is the Left, not the GOP, who despises their marriage.
