Yet another “conspiracy theory” is playing out right in front of our eyes.  Our friendly neighbors in Canada are now experiencing what it may feel like to be a citizen of China.   On Monday, February 14, 2022, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland held a press conference where they announced that they have authorized banks, financial institutions and insurance carriers to freeze accounts or nullify policies of anyone “suspected” of supporting the Freedom Protest, even just by way of social media.   The decision to do so is up to the bank or institution, and the government has protected them from civil liability for their action.

Basically, as noted by, “A banking employee who does not like the politics of a customer as revealed by a review of social media postings , and merely “suspects” the account holder of supporting or furthering the action, can, without any liability- block the bank accounts of any customer or account holder; and they do not need to provide an explanation.”    The order covers both personal and corporate accounts.

The full statement of “Remarks by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Regarding the Emergencies Act” can be found here.   The statement details the powers now granted to private institutions against the Canadian citizens.

Commentary on social media reveals the bewilderment of Canadian citizens.  For instance, some are now wondering if they’ll lose their bank account simply by tweeting “#HonkHonk”.
