NFL player JJ Watt has a history of stepping up in a big way to help people. Charity to others is something he’s known for, even though he’s a superstar on the Arizona Cardinals. He raised over $12 million for Hurricane Harvey victims in 2017 and more recently stepped up to help Santa Fe school shooting victims in 2019.

Watt’s latest effort is a Reebok JJ IV Valor training shoe to pay tribute to American military hero and former NFL player Pat Tillman.

Tillman famously sacrificed a football career with the Arizona Cardinals to join the military. He enlisted following the terror attack of 9/11 when Tillman felt the need to serve his country in Afghanistan. He was later tragically killed in combat on April 22, 2004.

Yahoo Sports reports that Watt consulted with Tillman’s widow ahead of the project:

“It has been an absolute privilege to work hand-in-hand with Pat’s widow, Marie Tillman, and CEO of the Pat Tillman Foundation, Dan Futrell, to ensure that this shoe properly and appropriately represents and honors Pat in a way that he would be proud of.”

Yahoo Sports describes the JJ IV Valor Reebok shoe as having “several Tillman-inspired details, including PT40 inscriptions, a Pat Tillman Foundation sock liner, and a commemorative hangtag.”

The best part of the signature shoe is a portion of the cost of the shoe will help further Pat Tillman’s legacy…$10 from each purchase through August will be donated to the Pat Tillman Foundation. The foundation helps veterans return to civilian society.

Watt will also donate 100% of his proceeds from the project:

“Pat Tillman lived his life in service of a purpose bigger than himself. That is his true legacy. This shoe is a small way to pay tribute to a legendary man, by not only honoring him but also donating to the foundation established in his name and ensuring that his legacy lives on.”
