Who saw this coming? Rod Rosenstein just ripped into former FBI Director James Comey in shocking remarks during a speech to the Greater Baltimore Committee (a nonprofit association of business leaders) tonight.

Rosenstein said Comey deserved to be fired and said he trampled on “bright lines that should never be crossed.”

It’s interesting that Rosenstein stepped down just two days ago. stepped down

Rosenstein took aim at Comey’s snarky comments earlier this month where he claimed Rosenstein and AG Barr didn’t have the “inner strength” to “resist the compromises necessary to survive Mr. Trump”.

According to Fox News, Rosenstein called Comey a “partisan pundit”:

“Now, the former director is a partisan pundit, selling books and earning speaking fees while speculating about the strength of my character and the fate of my immortal soul. That is disappointing. Speculating about souls is not a job for police and prosecutors. Generally, we base our opinions on eyewitness testimony.”

Rosenstein ripped Comey on his “clearest mistake” with the Clinton email investigation:

“The clearest mistake was the director’s decision to hold a press conference about an open case, reveal his recommendation and discuss details about the investigation, without the consent of the prosecutors and the attorney general. Then, he chose to send a letter to the Congress on the eve of the election stating that one of the candidates was under criminal investigation, expecting it to be released immediately to the public.”

Rosenstein tosses out sympathy for Comey on the way in which he was fired:

“If I had been the decision maker, the removal would have been handled very differently, with far more respect and far less drama, so I do not blame the former director for being angry.”

A SHORT CLIP FROM HIS SPEECH:

Rosenstein is no choir boy and the timing of this speech is interesting since the Inspector General’s report is due out soon.

Questions from Republicans on whether Rosenstein intentionally withheld documents from Congress are still unanswered.  Also, Rosenstein did not comply with congressional subpoenas but more importantly are questions surrounding the abuse of Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) warrants to spy on the Trump campaign and President Trump. It has been reported that Rosenstein offered to wear a wire to record President Trump. He also discussed the 25th Amendment where President Trump would be declared unfit to serve out his term as president.

As we said, this guy is no choir boy but is as dirty as the others. Could this be a CYA moment before the truth drops?
