On Tuesday night, comedian Dave Chappelle was attacked on stage at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles by a knife-wielding member of the audience.

Chappelle, who recently came under fire by the “cancel culture” leftists for his “gender is a fact” comment, was on the stage at LA’s Hollywood Bowl during the Netflix Is A Joke Fest when an audience member ran up on stage and tackled the comedian to the ground.

The attacker appeared to be armed with a handgun which was later discovered to be a replica gun that could eject a knife blade, according to the LAPD.

The assailant was quickly pulled off Chappelle and detained by security, leaving the comedian uninjured. However, the attacker, later identified as 23-year-old Isaiah Lee, suffered minor superficial injuries while being detained and was taken to a nearby hospital.

It is reported by Brianna Sacks,  a BuzzFeed reporter who attended the show, that the security workers at the venue were “kicking and punching” Lee for several minutes.

To defuse the situation, Chappelle stood back up and started making jokes about the incident, joking that his attacker “was a trans man” in reference to the anger he faced from the transgender community over his comments on gender.

Shortly after the assault, Chris Rock, who had also performed that night, came on stage and joked, “Was that Will Smith?”

Lee has been charged with felon assault with a deadly weapon and his bail is set at $30,000.
