So-called President-Elect Joe Biden suffered an awkward verbal mishap on Wednesday when he introduced Pete Buttigieg’s husband as “Kristen.”
Biden was introducing Buttigieg as his nominee for transportation secretary when he attempted to reference Buttigieg’s husband, Chasten.
“By the way, Jill and I have always enjoyed seeing Pete and Kristen— uh, Chasten, I should say, together on the trail.”
Joe Biden calls Chasten Buttigieg "Kristen."
Defeated by the teleprompter again.

Biden went on to say Chasten has “become a close friend of Jill’s and mine.”
Buttigieg, the former mayor of South Bend, Indiana, does not have any experience related to transportation apart from managing the streets of his city.
The South Bend chapter of Black Lives Matter (BLM) has denounced the selection.
“We saw Black communities have their houses torn down by his administration,” BLM leader Jorden Giger said, according to WGN. “We saw the machinery of his police turned against Black people.”
Meanwhile, Buttigieg defended his nomination and transportation credentials. “Travel in my mind is synonymous with grow, with adventure, even love,” he said.

Buttigieg: I love choo-choos and planes that fly!

“So much so that I proposed to my husband, Chasten, in an airport terminal. Don’t let anybody tell you that O’Hare [airport] isn’t romantic,” Buttigieg said.
Nothing says romantic quite like a TSA pat down and $9 water bottles https://t.co/8p8W0qB0PT

Mainstream media was beside itself with joy over what they called the first gay cabinet nominee, but the thing is, we already had an openly gay Cabinet member, Richard Grenell.
Ric Grenell is the first openly gay cabinet secretary, not Pete Buttigieg.

The Hill celebrated the nomination with the headline, “Pete Buttigieg to become the first openly LGBTQ+ Cabinet nominee in US history.” LGBTQ Nation, NBC News, The New York Times, The Telegraph and others all announced the same historic achievement for the LGBT community. CNN’s Jake Tapper tweeted out, “If confirmed, @PeteButtigieg would be the first Senate-confirmed openly LGBTQ Cabinet Secretary, @HRC notes in a press release.”
The Human Rights Campaign tweeted out, “This reported nomination would not only be historic, but a reminder to LGBTQ people everywhere that any opportunity is possible.”
President/CEO of GLAAD tweeted Sarah Kate Ellis said: “Mayor Pete Buttigieg would be the first Senate-confirmed LGBTQ Cabinet secretary should his nomination make it through the chamber. This will be a historic milestone for LGBTQ visibility.”
In February of 2020, President Trump made history by appointing Ambassador to Germany, Richard Grenell, as acting Director of National Intelligence.
LGBTQ Nation reported on this in February 2020 with the headline, “Donald Trump appoints the first gay person to a Cabinet-level position.”
They reported, “Grenell was sworn in as US Ambassador to Germany in 2018, making him the highest-ranking member of the LGBTQ population in the Trump administration. Now that he’s the acting DNI, he’s also the highest-ranking queer person in the Executive Branch’s history.”
