Harris County Treasurer Dr. Carla Wyatt was arrested on Saturday in Galveston County for allegedly Driving While Intoxicated (DWI), multiple outlets reported.
Wyatt, 56, has now been arrested twice within six months.
Altogether, Wyatt has been arrested three times since taking office as Harris County Treasurer.

Chron shared further:
This is the third time the county treasurer has been booked into a local jail. In December 2025, Wyatt was arrested in Houston on a misdemeanor charge of burglary of a motor vehicle. In April, a grand jury declined to indict her and returned a no-bill, indicating there was insufficient evidence to proceed in that case, according to ABC 13.
Saturday’s arrest also marks Wyatt’s second DWI charge. She was previously charged with Driving While Impaired in December 2023-a case that was dismissed after the county treasurer completed a Pretrial Diversion Program under Texas Government Code.
ADVERTISEMENTThe Houston Chronicle reported that Wyatt violated the conditions of her bond twice after her release, once in January 2024 and again in March 2024.
When contacted for comment after Wyatt’s arrest in December, Brooke Boyett with Harris County’s Communications Office said the county had no oversight as the treasurer is an independently elected position.
Wyatt, who has held the office since January 2023, is seeking reelection this year, according to ABC13.
Click2Houston obtained the Houston Police Department offense report of the 2023 arrest through a public records request.
According to the outlet, officers found Wyatt in the driver’s seat of a vehicle stopped in the roadway, and a witness reportedly told them Wyatt appeared to be going in and out of consciousness inside the running vehicle.
“Officers wrote in the report that Wyatt had slurred speech, balance issues, and smelled of alcohol,” the outlet stated.

Click2Houston has more:
Earlier this year, Harris County Commissioners Court unanimously voted to move some financial responsibilities out of the Treasurer’s Office.
During the February meeting, Commissioner Adrian Garcia cited “some concerns found” as part of the reason for the move.
Commissioners also discussed making the elimination of the Harris County Treasurer’s Office a legislative priority for the 2027 Texas legislative session.
ADVERTISEMENTThat effort to eliminate the office would need a constitutional amendment which requires approval from both the Texas Legislature and voters.
Wyatt is currently seeking re-election as Harris County Treasurer.
Under Texas law, a pending misdemeanor case does not prevent a candidate from remaining on the ballot or holding office.
