A Detroit city bus driver who recently made a Facebook video complaining about a female passenger in her 50’s or 60’s that coughed all over the bus without covering her mouth has died of COVID19.
Jason Hargrove, 50, died Wednesday of COVID-19, according to the head of the city’s bus driver union, Glenn Tolbert, on Thursday.
“This coronavirus shit is for real,” the driver said. “And we out here, as public workers, doing our job, trying to make an honest living, to take care of our families,” Hargrove said. “But for you to get on the bus and stand on the bus and cough several times, without covering up your mouth—and you know that we in the middle of a pandemic—that lets me know that some folks don’t care—utterly don’t give a f**k! Excuse my language, but that’s how I feel right about now.”
He continued with his rant, “For a grown-ass person in her late 50’s, early 60, to stand on the f**king bus and cough, four or five times, without covering up her mouth, and you know that we’re in the midst of a (expletive) coronavirus—.”
Hargrove implored people to take the spread of coronavirus seriously, saying “There’s folks dying out here!”
According to the Detroit News -In the video, Hargrove said there were about eight other passengers aboard during the incident, and that he feels “violated,” by the woman who coughed all over the bus and never covered her mouth.

Hargrove made it clear that he didn’t blame the city or anyone else for what happened on the bus that day, he was only blaming the woman who didn’t care enough for the other passengers on the bus to simply cover her mouth. Let’s hope Hargrove’s message reaches thousands of people who may not always cover their mouths when they cough or sneeze. If his video makes even a small number of people stop and think about how easily they could be unknowingly infecting others with COVID19, it could save an untold number of lives.
