Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in Burlington County, New Jersey went into lockdown Thursday following reports of an active shooter.

The base posted this urgent message on its X account Thursday afternoon:

“LOCKDOWN LOCKDOWN LOCKDOWN

ACTIVE SHOOTER REPORTED ON JBMDL
BLDG 5231. ALL PERSONNEL ARE TO LOCKDOWN UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.
ALL PERSONNEL OUTDOORS SHOULD TAKE COVER”

The base posted the same message onto its Facebook page:

“Currently, multiple authorities are responding to reports of an active shooter at Joint Base McGuire in Dix-Lakehurst, New Jersey. The base is currently on full lockdown, as confirmed by an official Facebook alert issued by Joint Base McGuire,” Rawsalerts posted.

FOX 29 Philadelphia reports:

A lockdown has been ordered at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst for reports of an active shooter, officials at the base said Thursday.

A Facebook post said the active shooter situation unfolded at Building 5231, and urged all personnel to lockdown or take cover until further notice.

Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst is located in Lakehurst, New Jersey, about 60 miles away from Philadelphia and 35 miles from Trenton.

The host unit at McGuire AFB is the 87th Air Base Wing (87 ABW), United States Air Force Expeditionary Center, AMC. The 87 ABW provides installation management to all of JB MDL.[6] The wing also provides mission-ready, expeditionary Airmen to support Unified Combatant Commanders in ongoing military operations. The wing consists of more than 3,100 officers, enlisted, and civilian personnel from the Air Force, Army and Navy. The 87th Air Base Wing is commanded by Colonel Bridget V. Gigliotti.[7] Its Command Chief Master Sergeant is Chief Master Sergeant Tony B. Jenkins.
