A suspicious item at Miami International Airport triggered panic among passengers and staff, prompting an evacuation.

Unverified videos began circulating on social media about an alleged bomb threat:

“BREAKING at Miami Airport: Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office is investigating a suspicious item inside MIA’s Concourse D after a dog alerted authorities,” Fox News journalist Danamarie McNicholl said.

“Gates D30–D41 including the Concourse D Skytrain and TSA Checkpoint 4 are evacuated,” she added.

“At 10 a.m. this morning, the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office began investigating a suspicious item inside MIA’s Concourse D,” communications division director for the Miami-Dade Aviation Department, Greg Chin, told The Mirror US in a statement.

“As a precaution, gates D30 to D41 and the surrounding areas, including the Concourse D Skytrain and TSA checkpoint 4, were closed. At 10:40 a.m., MDSO gave the all-clear, and the areas have reopened,” he added.

The latest incident comes just two days after an Amazon cargo plane barreled off a runway at Miami International Airport on Sunday, killing at least five people and injuring five others as it struck vehicles and was engulfed in flames, authorities said.

The aircraft overran the runway around 2 p.m. after arriving from San Juan, Puerto Rico, and plowed across a road used by warehouse workers and other businesses that surround the airport. Five people were killed, three critically injured and two others hospitalized with less severe injuries, Miami-Dade County officials told a news conference.

The crash, which sent thick black smoke billowing into the sky, trapped the pilot and copilot in the cockpit and some occupants in cars, said Miami-Dade Rescue Fire Chief Ray Jadallah. The agency said crews also had to extricate a person who was trapped under a vehicle.

Last week, a man was arrested at Miami International Airport after “joking” that he had a bomb in his bag while boarding a flight to Cuba.

According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office (MDSO), the 33-year-old suspect was boarding American Airlines flight AA1319 to Camaguey, Cuba.

The arrest report details that when the ticket counter agent asked Guevara-Crespo “the standard security questions” about whether he possessed lithium batteries or incendiary devices, he allegedly responded, “No, but I have a bomb.”

The agent told Guevara-Crespo that he could not fly and that she would have to contact her supervisor, according to the arrest report. The suspect said he was “joking.”

Deputies were dispatched to the gate and took Guevara-Crespo into custody without incident, MDSO said. A K9 checked his luggage and returned “negative results.”

The airline was allowed to resume normal operations.

Guevara-Crespo was taken to the airport station for an interview and gave a full confession, authorities said. He was arrested and taken to Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
